Understanding Medicare doesn’t have to feel complicated. Downey Federal Credit Union members can now access Medicare assistance designed to help you better understand your coverage options and make informed decisions about what may work for you.

Who Qualifies for Medicare Insurance?

Medicare is generally available to:

  • People age 65 or older
  • Certain people under age 65 with qualifying disabilities
  • People with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Understanding Your Medicare Options

Whether you’re approaching Medicare eligibility, already enrolled, or reviewing your coverage for the year ahead, a licensed Medicare representative can help answer your questions, explain your options, and guide you through the process.
Medicare includes several different types of coverage. Knowing what each one does can make it easier to understand your options.

Medicare Coverage What It Helps Cover
Part A
(Hospital Insurance)
Helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and certain home health care services.
Part B
(Medical Insurance)
Helps cover services from doctors and other healthcare providers, outpatient care, certain home health services, durable medical equipment, and many preventive services such as screenings, vaccinations, and yearly wellness visits.
Part C
(Medicare Advantage)
Medicare-approved plans offered by private insurance companies as an alternative to Original Medicare. These plans include Part A and Part B coverage and often include Part D prescription drug coverage. Some plans may also offer additional benefits.
Part D
(Prescription Drug Coverage)
Helps cover the cost of prescription medications and certain recommended vaccines. Coverage may be added to Original Medicare through a Medicare drug plan or included with certain Medicare Advantage plans.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
(Medigap)
Additional insurance sold by private insurance companies that can help pay some of the out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare. Standardized Medigap plans offer different levels of coverage, and costs may vary by insurance company.
