Life without a checking account can be difficult. DFCU's Opportunity Checking is a second chance to re-establish a banking relationship and offers similar benefits of a typical checking account. An Opportunity Checking Account is for those who might not qualify for a traditional checking account due to past financial errors. After 12 months of successfully being a Opportunity Checking Account holder, you may be eligible to upgrade to a Shield Checking Account. An Opportunity Checking Account is one way DFCU can help you reach your financial goals.

Eligibility requirements for Opportunity Checking:

  • No Suspected Fraud reporting
  • No Social Security Number/ITIN discrepancies
  • No negative reporting on the ChexSystems®* within the last 6 months
  • All amounts owed on the ChexSystems®* report must be paid
  • Acceptable explanation for more than 3 inquiries on ChexSystems®* in past three months

*ChexSystems® is a consumer reporting agency that monitors your checking and savings accounts activity over the course of your financial life. Eligibility requirements: All amounts owed on the member's ChexSystems® report must be resolved (paid), ChexSystems® negative reporting must be older than six (6) months, no suspected fraud reporting, acceptable explanation for more than 3 inquiries in past three months, and no social security number discrepancies. Opportunity checking account does not have check writing privileges, is not eligible for overdraft protection, and may have extended holds on check deposits (including ATM deposits). Account will not be eligible to use Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) until membership has reached six months of being in good standing, RDC privileges not guaranteed and can be suspended or revoked. Debit Card point of sale withdrawals have limit of $300 per day. An account may be eligible to transition to a Shield Checking Account after 12 consecutive months of satisfactory account maintenance and program adherence.
