There are three open positions for Downey Federal Credit Union's 2024 Board of Directors. The candidates are:


Dr. Brian Brown was born and raised in Downey, California. He graduated with honors from Stanford University and went on to attend Medical School at UCLA's School of Medicine; he then completed his internship at USC Medicine Center and his residency at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

In 1987, he returned to Downey to serve his community. Over the past 28 years, he has become one of Downey's most prominent ophthalmologist and eye surgeons and has received numerous awards and recognition. He is a lifetime member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Other affiliations include, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, California Association of Ophthalmologist, California Medical Association and Los Angeles County Medical Association. Dr. Brown's surgical privileges include Whittier Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, Center for Outpatient Surgery, USC Doheny, Physicians Surgery Center of Downey (where he is part owner), and Downey Regional Medical Center (now PIH Downey) where he once served as Chief of Staff. In addition, he is the former planning commission chairman for the City of Seal Beach.

He and his wife Rosie have 2 children, Will and Sarah, and reside in Seal Beach, California. He has been a member of Downey Federal Credit Union for over 23 years, and has served on the Board of Directors since 1999. Dr. Brown has accepted the nomination for another 3-year term and looks forward to being a part of DFCU's continued financial visibility in the Downey community.


Brian Saylors is the Managing Partner of Strayer Saylors & Associates, Inc., and has more than 31 years' experience in the tax and accounting field. He graduated with honors from California State University, Long Beach. Mr. Saylors started his experience in accounting at Deloitte & Touche, one of the largest accounting firms. His experience includes working in various industries, including medical, Insurance and manufacturing and then established a Downey-based firm in 2000, subsequently merging to establish Strayer Saylors & Associates, Inc. which has been helping clients with their financial success in Downey since 1971. In addition to working in various industries representing their accounting and tax strategies, he has also developed the expertise needed for dealing with the IRS by preparing taxes and representing clients with personal, corporate, partnership, trust and estate tax issues. He and his wife Elise have 4 children, who have all attended Downey schools and is active in the Downey Rotary Club contributing the success of the Downey community. He has been a member of the Downey Federal Credit Union since 1995, and began his tenure on DFCU's Supervisory Committee in 2006. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2012. Mr. Saylors has accepted the nomination for another 3-year term and looks forward to continuing to guide the grow and success of DFCU.

Note to Members: Additional candidates for the Board of Directors (over age 18) must submit a petition signed by 1% of the membership, a brief description of qualifications, and a signed statement that he or she will serve on the Board if elected. Petitions must be returned to the Secretary of the Board no later than February 16, 2024. There will be no nominations from the floor. Printed ballots will be mailed to all members eligible to vote at least 30 days prior to the meeting, if necessary.
