The Downey Federal Credit Union DFCU Cares Scholarship was established in 2023 to honor high school and college students who exemplify hard work, community service, and self-improvement. Interested students should be highly motivated, excel academically, and should be involved in and contribute to their community. Two (2) $1,000 scholarship awards are given to one (1) high school student and one (1) current college student. Scholarship is based on academic excellence and involvement in the community. College and High School applicants must currently or have resided in or attended high school in our Field of Membership: Bell, Bell Gardens, Bellflower, Compton, East Compton, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Norwalk, Paramount, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, or South Gate.
These grants are given every year in December at a special reception to deserving educators in our field of membership. These grants range in amounts from $250-$1,000 and can be used for special equipment, field trips, or programming that will enrich the lives of their students Applications are distributed to the schools in September and are also available online.
These awards recognize Seniors who excel academically at Downey and Warren High School. Awards are given in the amount of $250 to the top student in each area of study as determined by the department heads. Checks and recognition are given at a special award ceremony held at Downey and Warren High School each May.
